There is also some links below to help you learn programs that you may have on your computer or to help you keep your computer up to date. If you know of a site that has helped you, email me with the web address and I may put it on the page. Click here for the Free Virus Scan with HouseCall. You can check for virus' right now!! All links open in a new window, when you're done learning from a link, close the window and you'll be right back here to open a new link to get more helpful information. Info about the latest virus' and worm's speading like wildfire. The Sasser Worm is declining but still infecting computers. And it only infects winXP, win2000, server2003, and win NT4.0 users. A very helpful page from MSNBC has a useful "How-to" tool about halfway down the page for Blocking, Checking, & Protecting your computer. Help can also be found at Mircosoft's website. The Blaster worm only affects winXP, win2000, server2003, and win NT4.0 users. (If you're not sure click Start, and then click Run. In the Run dialog box, type winver. Click OK. A dialog box displays the version that you are running.) If you think you have the worm you will notice that your computer will suddenly reboot after getting a warning error window tell you that your computer will shut down. You will need to do a few things to correct the problem - click here for instructions. Now the other worm Nachi, Blaster-D, or Welchia that is out affects all PC type machines (although it does not affect Mac's or Linux type machines and if you're not sure - you probably have a PC type). If you have done your windows updating and have up to date antivirus program files you should be fine. (Worried? Click here for information from Microsoft's page.) The Sobig worm - This worm (virus type problem) typically disguises e-mail messages with an address that seems legitamate so that it appears they are coming from someone you know or could trust, a tactic known as spoofing. Many of the addresses are valid addresses that are being spoofed for malicious purposes. This does not mean that the address the email is supposably coming from has the worm. But if you have not updated your virus protection software or haven't been doing your windows updating and open one of these emails with the attachment, you may get the worm. If you have the worm go to the CA (computer associates) list of downloadable fixes for quite a few virus'/ worm's fixes. Look towards the bottom of the list for the fix for sobig. (Remember as long as you don't open the attachment you won't get the virus for this particular worm.) Please use the list below in The Next Step area to keep your computer clean - especially the top 5 that are bolded. Here's a website address from MicroSoft for people who may have accidentally thought they were correcting a virus called: sulfnbk.exe (always check out virus warnings with the Hoax link below). |
